December’s a big month for Dubai. Starting off with the Rugby Sevens and ending in the Dubai New Year celebrations, there’s plenty of filling to this excitement sandwich.
Let us walk you through December in Dubai and the things to do once you find a cheap hotel in Dubai.
Obviously, starting off with the Dubai Rugby Sevens, running from the 30th of November until the 2nd of December, it’s going to start with a bang. With tickets around 300 AED (£60) each day for the 1st and 2nd of December, the Rugby Sevens will keep you laughing all weekend long.
Coming in swiftly on the 1st of December is the UAE National Day celebrations. National pride fills the streets, you’ll see flags, traditional dances, shows, parades and concerts all around Dubai and the UAE. One of the best things about UAE National Day is the National Day Super Sale that kicks off, you’ll get some lovely bargains as all of your favourite retailers slash their prices.
A bit of fluff for the kids, next. Take up Santa’s Invitation at Kilachand Theatre, Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre (DUCTAC) for 130 AED (£26) where the North Pole is in need of some assistance from the 3rd of December until the 9th of December. Dress up the whole family for maximum Christmas spirit as this festive family-friendly show brings some of the magic of Christmas to the desert. Your kids will love it.
Dubai International Film Festival rocks up from the 6th of December, a celebration of cinema on the red carpet. International stars will descend upon Dubai between the 6th and 13th of December at Madinat Jumeirah. See some stars and get wrapped up in the glamour, as tickets are on sale now for the Red Carpet Gala event for 500 AED (£100).
See Sir Elton John, live, on the 8th of December at the Autism Rocks Arena. The singer songwriter will be perming with his piano, of course, what else needs to be said? Tickets from 295 AED (£60) to 1,195 AED (£240).
If you want to really feel the Christmas spirit, the Dubai Opera is going to be the place to be for all things sing-song this December 14th to 16th. Tickets start from 125 AED (£25) for you to take part in Jingle Bell Favourites. Hear all of your favourite Christmas songs and sing-along to your most well-known carols. At least nobody’s knocking on your door this year.
For something a little bit different, why not take a look at the World Future Sports Games from the 28th to 30th of December? It’s a bit nuts but you’ll be taking a pretty cool peek into the very near future of robotics in a fun and competitive environment. You’ll see driverless car racing, drone racing, robotic soccer, a wrestling championship and more. A new form of entertainment, to be sure, but why not get a head start and brag to all of your friends about how you saw this one robot totally body slam that other robot?
The Dubai New Year celebrations are second-to-none. Fireworks will light up the skyline across the Palm Jumeirah, Downtown Dubai and the surrounding areas. Make sure you don’t miss it, it’s rumoured to be even bigger and better than last year’s celebrations.
